Applus+ has launched a new strategic project in Colombia, focusing on asset integrity management through risk-based inspection (RBI) studies and the execution of both conventional non-destructive testing (NDT) and advanced NDT methods. The service is being carried out at production facilities located in the departments of Casanare and Putumayo, to ensure the operational reliability of static equipment and transport pipelines involved in crude oil supply.
The technical scope of the project includes systematic data capture and analysis, identification of damage mechanisms, risk calculation, and the development of prioritized inspection plans, in compliance with international standards such as API 580, API 1160, and ASME B31.8S. Field inspections complement this work, including conventional techniques such as ultrasonic testing, liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle inspection, visual inspection, and industrial radiographic testing, as well as advanced methods such as phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT), guided waves, eddy current testing, ACFM, and corrosion monitoring.
The project also involves isometric surveys, inspections of tank bottoms with magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing, roundness, verticality, and settlement studies, coating analysis, hardness testing, and metallography. Operations are supported by inspectors certified under API 510, 570, and 653 standards, ensuring a high technical level and full traceability of interventions.
This work is particularly relevant due to its direct contribution to service continuity in critical assets, minimizing failure risks and optimizing predictive maintenance plans. It also strengthens Applus+ position as a regional leader in integrity services, internal and external corrosion management, and structural integrity assessment of energy infrastructure.
A key challenge of the project is operating in areas with community presence, for which a community engagement strategy has been implemented, based on hiring local labour and suppliers, aligning technical execution with social responsibility principles. In addition, operational protocols have been designed to enable agile response to unplanned activities, reducing response times and improving service efficiency.
Project monitoring is conducted through regular meetings, technical dissemination workshops, and performance evaluations, facilitating effective communication with both operational and strategic stakeholders. Upon completion of the contract, Applus+ expects to consolidate new expansion opportunities and reinforce its expertise in applying RBI studies in complex energy production environments.
This project represents an important milestone in Applus+ service portfolio in Colombia, integrating engineering capabilities, advanced technology, and a territorial approach to ensure the safe and sustainable operation of critical Oil & Gas assets.
