Applus+ has been selected as the company responsible for providing technical inspection services for electrical networks and digital environmental management with the AmbiensQ platform for one of the most ambitious energy infrastructure projects in Chile’s history: the country’s first High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission line, which will span more than 1,300 km from the Antofagasta Region to the Metropolitan Region.
Applus+ will conduct technical inspections across three strategic segments of the project, totalling 637 km of HVDC line—equivalent to 48% of the total route.
The segments include:
One of the key differentiators in Applus+ offer was the inclusion of the Ambiens Q platform—a digital solution for environmental information control and traceability. This tool is especially valuable for large-scale projects with multiple regulatory commitments. It strengthens regulatory compliance and facilitates sustainable project management.
This HVDC project addresses an urgent need: the current transmission lines lack the capacity to evacuate renewable energy from northern Chile—a region with high solar and wind potential. Building this new line will enable more efficient energy distribution and help decarbonise the country’s energy matrix.
Applus+ will contribute its expertise in technical inspection, QA/QC management, operational health and safety, and environmental sustainability, ensuring that construction is carried out in line with technical standards, within defined deadlines, and with a zero-accident focus.
Key highlights for Applus+ in this project include:
Since 2023, Applus+ has maintained a consultative relationship with the client—understanding their needs, aligning its value proposition, and showcasing experience in complex energy and infrastructure projects. This close relationship enabled the presentation of a strong technical proposal tailored to the context and challenges of the project.
During implementation, Applus+ will employ technological platforms, including drones, to generate audiovisual records, track progress, and provide periodic reports to the client. These materials will also be used for public updates on progress and results, reinforcing transparency and a commitment to innovation.
