The environmental department at Novotec, a company within the Applus+ Group, has played a key role in the environmental permitting process for a project developed by a Spanish company specializing in engineering, the supply of technology packages, and the “turnkey” construction of industrial plants, ensuring compliance with regulations and contributing to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions in the advanced recycling sector.
This project was also selected by SBCOP to be included in the case study booklet presented during the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), held earlier this year in Brazil, which brought together world leaders, scientists, NGO representatives, and members of civil society from more than 190 countries to discuss actions to address climate change and ensure global sustainability.
With Novotec's support, the project complies with all applicable legal and environmental requirements, strengthening the circular economy and sustainability while helping position Europe as a benchmark in advanced recycling and emissions reduction. The project involves the construction of an industrial polyester depolymerization plant capable of producing 40,000 tons of material per year with the same quality as polyester manufactured from fossil-based feedstocks. This process will prevent the emission of approximately 120,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year, recovering polyester waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill or incinerated.
