Applus+ has been awarded the contract to carry out visual testing of overpasses (bridges, viaducts, and drainage structures) included in the Greater Porto concession managed by the highway operator Ascendi. This concession comprises some of the main road corridors of the Porto Metropolitan Area, which are strategic infrastructures for mobility in the region.

Applus+ work combines visual inspections and tests performed by its specialized technical teams with advanced technologies—such as the use of drones for infrastructure inspection—to obtain precise data even in areas that are difficult to access. This enables a more efficient and safe structural integrity assessment, ensuring regulatory compliance and optimizing maintenance strategies through early detection of potential deficiencies. In addition, Applus+ incorporates digital management systems that ensure full traceability of the condition of each structure, further optimizing maintenance strategies.

This project will allow Ascendi to optimize its maintenance strategies based on objective data, complying with the most demanding safety regulations in the sector. Likewise, it will help reduce operating costs through more efficient predictive planning, while guaranteeing the safety of users of its infrastructures.

Applus+ has more than 30 years of experience in the inspection of critical infrastructures, having collaborated with highway operators, public administrations, and concessionaires both nationally and internationally.

This contract reinforces Applus+ presence in the Portuguese market and consolidates its position as a leading technological partner for highway operators in Europe.
