Applus+ in India providing ESCO services and NDT technologies in a growing energy transition

29/03/2023

Applus+ in India participated for the first time in India Energy Week in February 2023 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). India is expected to navigate through an energy transition that will play a pivotal role in the global energy markets and the three-day event was a part of this effort, attracting 30,000+ global energy professionals to join in the discourse. Our team was present as we wanted to tap into this emerging market opportunity.

Being a global leader in the TIC sector, Applus+ in India started ESCO services by getting empaneled with BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency, MoP, Govt. of India) with the aim of EEQ (cost Effective, Efficient and Quality) service to the industries, and partnering or helping in their road map to sustainable development. Over the past two years, our team has carried out more than 25 projects in the energy sector, providing clients with highly competitive and effective solutions, such as Energy Audits, Carbon Footprint Verification, Sustainability Assurance, Coal Mill Performance Test, Electrical & Fire Safety Audit, Pre-Start-Up Audit, Solar Consulting or Engineering Services and Capacity Building Trainings.

During the event, along with promoting our sustainability services under the power, renewable, and engineering service lines, our technical experts demonstrated how IWEX technology, DTI Trekscan, HRSG Crawler, and PIT work. There was also a display of specific machines available for potential clients to observe in person.

IWEX technology uses ultrasonic (UT) inspection to determine if flaws are defects or benign. Predicting failure probability, helps clients prioritize repair and maintenance work that will reduce costs and downtime and enhance productivity. Niels Pörtzgen, our Technical Authority and Inventor of the IWEX technology, joined the team in India and got a chance to speak at the Technical Conference in the Operational Excellence session about improving asset integrity with advanced ultrasonic 2D and 3D imaging technology for non-destructive testing. He was also on hand at our booth to answer further questions.

The HRSG Crawler resolves the setbacks associated with waste heat boilers for testing finned tubes in a combined cycle power plant. This unit gives a more accurate and reliable insight into the integrity of the tubes in Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) boilers.

Unpiggable pipelines have long been deemed impossible to inspect for corrosion and wall thickness. Applus+ developed the Pipeline Inspection Tool (PIT), which makes these inspections possible while remaining safe, reliable, and cost-effective. Similarly, the DTI Trekscan facilitates effective pipeline integrity management by allowing successful inline inspection of unpiggable pipelines, which previously had been difficult and expensive to perform.
