Strengthening industrial environmental management through integrated air emissions and noise monitoring in Brazil

18/06/2026

Applus+ is carrying out a specialized industrial environmental monitoring project focused on the control of atmospheric emissions, fugitive emissions, and environmental noise at land terminals and operational stations located across different regions of Brazil. The initiative integrates advanced technical services to ensure regulatory compliance, strengthen environmental management, and reduce operational risks at highly demanding industrial facilities.

The scope of the project includes fugitive emissions monitoring (LDAR), fixed-source assessments, environmental noise measurements, asset inventory and traceability, as well as technical analysis of gases and atmospheric emissions, providing a comprehensive view of the environmental performance of operations through our integrated environmental monitoring solution, ambiensQ

As part of these activities, Applus+ teams identify and tag thousands of devices in the field, estimate evaporative and fugitive emissions, monitor potential leaks using specialized technologies such as PID/FID equipment, and model emissions using technical software for environmental analysis and simulation.

The project further incorporates environmental noise monitoring campaigns and gas analysis in stacks and fixed sources, generating critical data to assess operational impacts and define mitigation and control strategies. All collected information is consolidated into structured technical reports that support informed decision-making and the continuous monitoring of environmental performance indicators.

Activities are being carried out across multiple operational units located in the states of São Paulo, the Federal District, Goiás, and Minas Gerais, with project execution scheduled to continue through July 2029.

From an industrial decision-maker’s perspective, one of the key operational risks is non-compliance with environmental requirements related to atmospheric emissions, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), fugitive emissions, and noise levels. Such non-compliance may result in regulatory penalties, reputational impacts, operational restrictions, or increased risks to business continuity.

Applus+ mitigates these risks through an approach based on continuous monitoring, asset traceability, specialized technical assessments, and proactive environmental performance analysis, enabling the identification of critical areas, the prioritization of corrective actions, and strengthening operational control across industrial facilities.

Challenges associated with project execution—including field conditions, weather factors, and the simultaneous operation of multiple sites—are managed through detailed planning, the use of certified equipment, internationally recognized methodologies, and highly specialized multidisciplinary teams.

As a result, the project contributes to reducing emissions and pollutants, improving the traceability of industrial assets, and establishing a robust technical foundation for continuous improvement and operational sustainability. It also enhances the ability of operations to meet increasingly stringent environmental regulatory requirements.
