Applus+ will inspect offshore wind towers for projects in Mexico and the United States


    Applus+, a global leader in inspection and non-destructive testing services, announces its prominent participation in a key project for the manufacturing of wind towers destined for offshore projects in Mexico and the United States. This project focuses on the production of towers for marine wind turbines, large-scale structures designed to withstand marine conditions.

    The project involves inspection during the manufacturing of high-quality and durable wind towers, essential for the generation of electrical power from renewable sources. Production will adhere to strict European standard ISO 9712, which poses a challenge in Mexico, a country where American standards had previously been followed.

    Services provided by Applus+ include visual and dimensional inspections of welds for anomalies or deviations, as well as volumetric examinations using ultrasonic testing and surface examinations using liquid penetrants or magnetic particles on welds. Additionally, rigorous dimensional control of weldable elements is conducted.

    A distinctive aspect of this project is the support provided by Applus+ in certifying personnel and developing appropriate procedures for production. A monthly production of 12 sections, equivalent to 4 towers, is anticipated, significantly contributing to renewable energy generation.
