Applus+ provides comprehensive quality management services for large-scale energy projects in Colombia

07/04/2026

Applus+ has developed an Integrated Technical Project Assurance Service (ATIP) to ensure the quality, integrity, reliability, and safety of assets in projects for a major client in the oil and gas sector and its corporate group. Our contribution covers all phases of the project lifecycle, from planning and design to commissioning, start-up, and asset integration for operation.

The services will be carried out between January 2026 and January 2029, with nationwide coverage focused on the main regions where integrated exploration, production, transportation, refining, and commercialization activities are conducted, including the Caribbean, Central region, Orinoquía, South, East, Piedemonte, and Bogotá.

Its technical and methodological approach ensures compliance with regulatory, legal, technical, and quality requirements, aligned with the international standards demanded by the hydrocarbons industry.

Applus+ ATIP model integrates five key components that enable comprehensive risk and quality management in complex projects. These components include quality assurance management, technical management of equipment and materials, process safety risk management, commissioning assurance, and asset integration management, ensuring that each asset is delivered in optimal conditions for safe, reliable, and sustainable operation.

During service execution, Applus+ specialized teams carry out technical activities such as defining quality requirements for all project phases, preparing and updating quality plans in accordance with ISO 10005, conducting at-source and on-site surveillance of equipment and materials, and managing brand homologation and supply monitoring. Additionally, commissioning assurance is performed through functional tests, technical verifications, and certifications, as well as the structured integration of assets into maintenance management systems through prioritization, characterization, and operational strategy definition.

One of the main challenges in large-scale oil and gas projects is preventing failures in critical equipment that could lead to process safety incidents, operational impacts, or regulatory deviations. To mitigate these risks, Applus+ applies management systems certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, combined with technical inspection schemes, quality indicator monitoring, and early warning mechanisms that anticipate deviations and optimize decision-making.

As a result, the integrated technical assurance service contributes to process optimization in the hydrocarbons industry, consistent compliance with international quality and safety standards, and the delivery of reliable, safe, and operational-ready assets. It also strengthens materials and resource management, reduces costs associated with rework and early failures, and promotes technical knowledge transfer to project teams.

Through these solutions, Applus+ consolidates its position as a strategic partner in technical project assurance, risk management, commissioning, and asset integrity management for the energy sector in Colombia, adding value through a comprehensive vision that supports projects throughout their lifecycle and contributes to more efficient, safe, and sustainable operations.
