Applus+ will launch a strategic campaign for the cleaning of cargo tanks on FPSO units operating in offshore Brazil, focusing on the application of manual and semi-mechanized methods for cargo tanks, slop tanks, void spaces, engine rooms, and ballast tanks. The contract, with an expected duration of 36 months and scheduled to begin in 2026, aims to ensure maximum operational availability of the units by reducing downtime and enabling the efficient release of tanks for subsequent inspection and maintenance activities.
The project leverages Applus+ expertise in offshore inspection services, confined-space safety management, and the application of technologies designed to improve operational efficiency. Cleaning campaigns across multiple FPSO units are carried out in accordance with tank certification cycle requirements, which include cleaning, inspection, and, when necessary, repair activities. These tasks form part of the recertification process required by classification societies, ensuring structural integrity, operational safety, and full regulatory compliance of the assets.
From a technical and operational perspective, the project is structured to reduce worker exposure and increase execution efficiency. The semi-mechanized solution adopted by Applus+ enables services to be completed in up to 50% less time compared to traditional methods, while reducing manual handling of loads by 85% and decreasing the need for manual bagging of oily waste by 95%. The operation also employs an electrical system suitable for classified hazardous areas, eliminating the consumption of large volumes of diesel fuel. In addition, the compact equipment footprint preserves cargo handling and circulation areas, delivering significant logistical advantages and contributing to more efficient onboard operations.
Among the expected benefits are accelerated tank release, optimization of campaign resources, direct financial gains for the stakeholders involved, and the strengthening of technical partnerships through consistent delivery in terms of safety, schedule adherence, and operational performance.
