Applus+ oversees safety at the Coca-Cola Europacific partner's site in Portugal

14/03/2023

Since October 2021, Applus+ has been monitoring the Photovoltaic Installation of a Production Unit for the Self-Consumption Project on two roofs of the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) plant in Azeitão, Portugal.

This project provided the installation of 3,240 photovoltaic modules, which meant a total power of 1,749.6 kWp, and the start-up of this plant in two well-differentiated phases, the first at the level of the roofs of the Coca-Cola facilities and the second the installation of panels on the floor.

The first phase of execution of the work, which began in May 2022, carried out the parallel installation of structural reinforcement elements (belts and metal profiles fixed directly over the water of one of the decks, and allowed the installation of 1,557 photovoltaic panels/modules).

The second phase, already licensed, is in preparation and includes the installation of 1,683 photovoltaic modules on the ground.

Applus+ will once again accompany this phase as CCEP's safety representative on-site, supervising the work of the installer, in accordance with the internal safety requirements of Coca-Cola and the site.

The monitoring, supervision, and daily reporting of the safety aspects of the works during the execution phase meant recognition of our work in the provision of construction occupational health and safety services on site and the choice of Applus+ in Portugal to accompany a new project that Coca-Cola considers it essential for its expansion in the market.

The project foresees the expansion of the CCEP facilities in Azeitão and includes a new warehouse, with a storage area of 10,135.77 m2 by 239.90 m, 42.25 m long, and 12.5 m high. With the license approved, the start of the works occurred on January 2, 2023.

“It is an added value for Applus+ in Portugal to be able to work with a demanding client like Coca-Cola and in which we can review our prevention and Health and Safety policies”, says Alexandre Cardoso Pereira, Applus+ Country Manager in Portugal.
