Applus+ inspects the pipes of a major mining pipeline in Brazil

28/10/2021

Applus+ is the awarded bidder for the inspection of pipe welding of an important mining pipeline in the state of Pará, Brazil.

The project will involve phased array or conventional ultrasonic weld inspection of mining pipelines, the review of the welding procedure specification (WPS), and the review of the Specification for Welding Procedure and Performance Qualification.

The ultrasonic inspection technique provides a fast and reliable UT inspection solution for flaw detection and characterisation. Inspections across multiple angles are performed concurrently, creating significant cost savings and providing recordable results for further analysis and/or future inspections.

Applus+ presents the client with the ultrasonic corrosion monitoring solution, a non-intrusive (non-invasive) technique for mapping material thickness. The technique can be used to identify variations in material thickness due to corrosion or other degradation phenomena, graphically portraying problems such as stress corrosion cracking or hydrogen-induced cracking.

Applus+ has extensive experience in defining the scope of non-intrusive inspection work through the application of advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, allowing operators to accurately measure anomalies and focus on the most potentially problematic areas. This avoids unnecessary repairs and ensures that customers' assets are fully compliant with all applicable regulations.
