Applus+ in Saudi Arabia provides advisory services to implement and support the IAMS project for the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services

Applus+ implemented, configured and deployed the Infrastructure Asset Management System (IAMS) that will be used by the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For this project, we worked with our partner Deighton, developer of the dTIMS® system, integrating the Ministry’s databases and obtaining the first big-scale analysis of road assets for the Ministry at the strategic and tactical levels.

We installed the system in a server complying with the national cybersecurity standards and also provided the training to operate and maintain it.

Applus+ dedicated to the project two civil engineers and a support team of 3 IT engineers, joined by two more civil engineers from our partner.

The methodology was defined utilizing a similar approach to the one used in Qatar (ASHGHAL). The Saudi Arabia road network and its database it is considerably larger (KSA has approximately 80,000 km, while Qatar’s is 10,000 km) influencing the server’s capacity, the complexity of the analysis and interpretation and the updating of the database. The main challenge was to collect and configure the databases and automatize their upgrading, which was overcome by our IT team through continuous communication with the IT and GIS (Geographic Information System) departments of the Ministry.

Applus+ developed IT tools to extract, transform and load the Ministry’s databases. The main databases recovered automatically for the system are bridges, pavement, GIS and road safety.

This information will be processed and analysed according to the customized algorithms to estimate the deterioration of the road assets and calculate the best maintenance programs assigning the necessary budgets to achieve the levels of service.

10 dashboards were developed for the top management officers to visualize the processed databases and the results related to the analysis.
