Applus+ has been selected to provide inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) services in the manufacturing of wind towers for a major wind energy project located in the city of Altamira, Tamaulipas, in northeastern Mexico. This contract, which will run from September 2025 to December 2026, aims to ensure the structural quality and integrity of the materials used in the construction of critical components for renewable energy generation.
Through advanced techniques such as conventional ultrasound (UT), liquid penetrant testing (LPT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT), and visual inspections (VT), Applus+ guarantees compliance with the international ISO 9712 standard, the client’s technical requirements, and the safety standards demanded by the wind energy sector.
The manufacturing of wind towers involves significant technical challenges, as these structures are exposed to high dynamic loads and severe environmental conditions. Timely detection of any defects or discontinuities in welds and materials is key to ensuring durability and reliability.
Applus+ inspection services enable:
During the course of the project, several wind towers will undergo monthly inspections to ensure structural quality at every stage of the manufacturing process. By the end, the goal is to consolidate a highly specialized team of technicians certified under ISO 9712 in techniques such as UT, VT, MT, PT, and PAUT, thereby strengthening Applus+ technical capabilities in the wind sector and its positioning as a benchmark provider of inspection services for renewable energy.
To ensure the project’s success, Applus+ will implement mitigation measures against risks such as:
The project supervisor will be responsible for reporting weekly progress to the Applus+ Mechanical Services team, ensuring traceability, quality control, and smooth communication with the client.
