Applus+ carries out NDT inspection project on wind turbines in Bahia, Brazil

17/06/2025

Applus+ is undertaking a project focused on wind turbine inspection at the facilities of a major client located in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The contract aims to ensure structural integrity without affecting the components during the manufacturing process.

The non-destructive testing (NDT) methods include LPT (liquid penetrant testing), magnetic particle testing, and conventional UT (ultrasonic testing), carried out by specialised personnel using high-precision equipment. These techniques allow the identification of cracks, porosities, faults, or other structural defects that could compromise the operational safety of the wind turbine towers.

The main objective of the project is to detect discontinuities without causing further damage, optimising maintenance decision-making, extending the service life of the assets, and ensuring regulatory compliance within the renewable energy sector.

    Key benefits include:

    • Accurate localisation of structural defects.
    • Assessment of the severity and size of the damage.
    • Generation of detailed technical reports.
    • Confirmation of the operational status of the structures.
    • Verification of compliance with international standards.

Applus+ implements rigorous safety protocols, technical planning, and ongoing training, which help mitigate risks such as electrical exposure, working at height, or challenging environmental conditions.

Progress is communicated through formal reports, regular meetings, and technical visual documentation, ensuring transparency and traceability throughout the project’s execution.

With this project, Applus+ strengthens its position as a strategic partner in the wind energy sector, providing specialised solutions that guarantee safety, reliability, and efficiency in critical renewable generation assets.
