Novotec, an Applus+ Group company, has recently completed the SUSTAIN E+ project, launched in 2022. It involved undertaking sustainability consulting initiatives with the aim of helping the stakeholders engaged in the development and implementation of Erasmus+ projects with a view to designing proposals in which sustainability is key, taking into account the carbon footprint of their activities.

Novotec, which is part of the Applus+ Group, has acted as coordinator of this project, financed by the European Commission within the scope of the Erasmus+ programme, which has also benefited from the collaboration of four other companies, located in Italy, Greece, Poland and Spain.

The SUSTAIN E+ project focused on three main challenges:

    • The creation of a tool for assessing the environmental impact of Erasmus+ projects, determining their suitability for green certification.
    • The development of environmental education materials that provide guidance on how to implement Erasmus+ projects in a sustainable way, encouraging the optimisation of resources and reducing pollution.
    • The launch of a grassroots online platform, aimed at promoting more sustainable partnerships and sharing experiences with a view to improving working practices.

An efficient management system designed to minimise environmental impact has underpinned all the initiatives, resulting in fewer transnational meetings, a paperless dissemination strategy, the optimisation of online management tools, and a sustained effort to spread the word about what has been achieved.

The final project event was held last February. The Novotec professionals who led SUSTAIN E+ presented the key results obtained, i.e. the self-assessment training tools and the online course for teaching project managers how to design sustainable projects, taking into account the existing benefits and barriers associated with the development and implementation of European sustainability projects.

Furthermore, some of the best practices regarding the implementation of sustainable projects were showcased through the presentations delivered by prominent representatives of the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality and Sustainability, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, JO Arquitectura Pasiva, EQA and the Technological Institute of Plastics.

Through this project led by Novotec, the Applus+ Group has consolidated its position as a trusted partner in Europe for the promotion of sustainable practices, guiding clients towards a more environmentally friendly future.
