Materials testing

Materials testing is used to assure a component’s material has not degraded over time and that the material complies with the tolerance range set by the relevant production standards.

Applus+ is a global leader in materials testing services, and our network of material testing laboratories and technical centers deliver certification in line with relevant standards, confirming the material’s qualities, chemical analysis, and strength class. Our highly qualified personnel are experienced in steel production, refineries, hydropower, aeronautics, oil and gas, pipelines, and well equipment, as well construction materials testing.

Applus+ metallographic teams perform a variety of non-destructive materials investigations at our material testing laboratories or on-site, including:

  • Chemical analysis / positive material identification (PMI) using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES)
  • Microstructure investigation and evaluation
  • Hardness testing
  • Rockwell method
  • Leeb method (Equotip)
  • Vickers method (Ernst Esatest)
  • Dynamic impact
  • Ferrite testing and measurement
  • Thickness measurement of overlay cladding
  • Copper-sulfate testing
  • Ferroxyl testing
  • Acid pickling
