Why an Applus+ Inspection Team are Citing Team Work as the Driving Force Behind a Challenging Scope

21/02/2019

An Applus+ rope access inspection team are being praised for their recent work on Woodside Energy’s North Rankin Bravo platform. Tasked with the inspection of the DSF supports and the jacket leg connection, the scope proved to be a challenge with the team quick to highlight potential concerns.

During the pre-application phase, there were obvious issues with access and egress as the under deck location of the asset meant there were no visual vantage points from which we could assess the location. These concerns were heightened by the fact there was no structural anchorage to allow safe transit around the structure for performing close visual and eddy current inspection techniques,” said Patrick King, Applus+ Rope Access Supervisor.

After conducting in depth research into possible solutions, the team devised a plan for the inspection. Liaising with management from both Woodside and Applus+, the strategy was thoroughly reviewed to ensure all compliance requirements were met and both parties were in agreeance on the intended approach.

The plan proposed the inspection of the least complex structure first, gradually migrating towards the most complex, allowing the team to gain valuable insight into the structures’ topography through the process. The inspection was carried out successfully with the rope access team citing cooperation and communication as key contributors to the operation.

What proved invaluable, and made the scope possible, was team work, communication and our combined determination to achieve the desired outcomes. Our ability to assess the situation and devise an appropriate course of action was driven by our competence as a group and solid communication skills,” said Mr. King.
