Applus+ has been awarded the consulting contract to administer and inspect the infrastructure under construction pertaining to the Taras and La Lima road interchanges in the city of Cartago, for an important public sector client in the Republic of Costa Rica.

The project includes the construction of two overpasses along the 2.8 kilometers of the road that connects Taras and La Lima, including the construction of access and exits, turns, sidewalks, bus routes, and bicycle lanes at different points.

According to estimates provided by the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation of the Republic of Costa Rica (MOPT), some 40,000 vehicles pass through the area every day. This project is extremely important for all users travelling along the San José - Cartago route and south of the country.

Applus+ provides support services to the MOPT executing unit between the intersection of National Routes No. 2 and 236 (Taras) and the intersection of National Routes No. 2 and 10 (Cartago). The contract includes the revision of designs, provision of necessary personnel and materials, and monitoring, control and verification to ensure that the works are conducted in compliance with local regulations in all established areas and phases.

The services provided by Applus+ also include verifying that the main contractor complies with safety, health, environmental and occupational hygiene regulations required by the country's legal system and the safeguards established in the policies of the Inter-American Development Bank (the international institution financing the project).
