Applus+ IDIADA continues to enhance its Proving Ground test tracks

14/02/2022

Applus+ IDIADA's Test Facility Design team has designed and implemented a significant test track maintenance plan during the 2021 autumn/winter season. The main objectives of this work have been to maximize the safety of users, ensure that our testing surfaces remain in optimum conditions, and to provide more testing options for our customers.

    Breakdown of improvements carried out

We have created an additional ISO surface (ISO10844:2021) on Dynamic Platform A to offer more capacity for pass-by noise testing. Additionally, we have worked to recondition the surfaces’ seal joints, repainted all the predefined test markings, and installed new protection barriers.

Adaptation works affecting our Dry Handling Circuit consisted of the installation of new protection barriers. New tyre walls have been constructed, together with an extension of run-off areas to improve the safety when used in a clockwise configuration.

As for the Wet Circle track and the Wet Asphalt section of the braking surfaces, they have gone through a complete resurfacing process to restore both tracks’ condition as if they were new.

Finally, our Control Tower Operations team has been provided with state-of-the-art equipment, allowing for better monitoring and surveillance of test track activity to improve users’ safety.
