Applus+ outlines the future of statutory technical inspection at CITA workshop

11/07/2019

According to the UN Assembly, every Member State should implement road safety policies to protect vulnerable road users, particularly children and young people. In view of this, Applus+ Riteve presented its vision for the “Present and future of periodic statutory technical inspection in Central and South America” at the International Motor Vehicle Committee (CITA) workshop.

The event was organised by the Road Safety Council of Costa Rica (COSEVI), the Ministry of Employment and Transportation (MOPT), the Secretary for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA) and the Ibero-American Observatory of Road Safety (OISEVI). Two senior Technical Managers from Applus+ Riteve presented their vision to attendees, among which were representatives of the Central American transport authorities and Caribbean governments, as well as the CITA President and the CITA President for Latin America.

The presentation introduced the “Decenio de Acción para la Seguridad Vial 2011-2020”, a plan based on five pillars: road safety management, more secure routes of transit and mobility, safer vehicles, enhanced security for route users, and accident response. Implementation of its strategic plan will allow Applus+ Riteve to update road safety infrastructure by moving towards a shared approach.

Applus+ Riteve has built a strong reputation in Central America and the Caribbean for statutory vehicle inspection programmes. It has provided guidance and expertise on several government projects, such as Electronic Controlled Safety Systems (ECSS) inspection, dynamic emissions testing using dynamometers (ASM) and off-lease inspections.
