Applus+ K2 performs DROPS inspection with drones for an important company in Brazil

19/10/2022

The Applus+ K2 team performs an inspection with drones, for a major Brazilian onshore company, to identify and eliminate all potentially deadly threats that can cause falling objects in high-risk areas.

The DROPS (Dropped Objects Prevention Scheme) audit involves an external and internal inspection of three warehouses, in the Port of Rio de Janeiro, to identify the potential dangers of objects that can cause injuries and accidents within the operation.

Thus, the drone inspection services were carried out on the roof and on the side decks, covering all the equipment installed at height, and around the structures, as well as the inspection of the bridge cranes.

With this service, Applus+ K2 seeks to minimize occupational risks, avoiding the exposure of employees to the risks at heights without interrupting the client's operation.

The execution of DROPS inspection with the use of drones proved to be 3 times faster compared to traditional methods and with less manpower involved in the works. Risk reduction regarding access to inspection sites was also demonstrated.

To perform this service, an inspector remotely follows the entire structure in detail and identifies possible risks for the personnel in operation. Taking precise data allows a report on potential risks to be quickly produced and, at the same time, provides corrective recommendations based on the current DROPS rules.

The added value of the Applus+ K2 service provides the client with an inspection with high quality and precision data with mapping of all areas in an agile and safe way. Critical items are reported immediately so the client can take corrective action quickly. Additionally, an online reporting system is provided to access the project actively and productively.

It is key to highlight that through Applus+ portfolio, the clients can manage, establish maintenance routines and repeat the inspections when needed. This is done to maintain the accuracy and uniformity of the information while facilitating and monitoring the integrity of the assets.
