Applus+ provides electrical testing services to SAT Energy in the Netherlands

19/07/2023

Applus+ signed a contract with SAT Energy to provide electrical testing services in the Netherlands.

SAT Energy is a company in the area of electrical installations with HV insulated cable and the works included in this contract correspond to commissioning tests of 9 630 mm2 36 kV cables, with 18 GIS plug-in terminations, in Energieweg, Netherlands.

These electrical tests help to determine the condition of the cables and their equipment, in order to avoid service interruptions and the adoption of unnecessary preventive measures.

This work consists of insulation tests and verification of new AT cables; after its placement and installation in the ground, a continuous voltage test is carried out between the metallic screen of the cable and a ground reference, as reflected in the UNE 211006:2010 standard (tests prior to the commissioning of high voltage electrical cable systems in alternating current).

The test must be carried out in alternating current at very low frequency (VLF). This test is preferred over direct current because it better detects major defects and because the DC voltage test can produce long-lasting space charges on insulated plastic cables.

For carrying out the work, legal provisions will be taken into account, such as the UNE EN and IEC Standards on tests applicable to each case, as well as the regulations relating to technical conditions and safety guarantees for high power and voltage lines and their complementary technical instructions ITC-LAT 01 to 09 (RD 223/2008).

Applus+ has personnel with adequate technical training and experience, rigorous documentation, applicable legislation, and standards, to carry out this type of work.
