Wind turbine inspection by means of ultrasound (UT) for Senvion

21/05/2018
The Energy & Industry Division has successfully developed a project for scanning wind turbines via ultrasound (UT) in different countries for pioneering wind power company Senvion.
Applus+, through the Energy and Industry Division, has successfully carried out inspection services by means ofultrasonic testing methods in the armature shafts found in wind turbines for Senvion, a global pioneering wind power company.

In order to achieve this, Applus+ experts have implemented this ultrasound testing method with self-made tools, which has allowed the completion of inspections smoothly and efficiently.

One of the biggest challenges in this project has consisted in meeting our clients’ strict demands with regard to safety measures. To this end, employees in the Division received specialised training and obtained a certificate which guaranteed that they fulfilled all these requirements, thus demonstrating their ability to adapt to clients’ demands and develop the ongoing project effectively.

This project has shown the capacity of Applus+ to work and coordinate with each other at an international level while at the same time applying local knowledge, since 53 wind turbines will be inspected in different locations around the world where the Division works. These can be found in Germany, Japan (near Fukushima) and Australia (near Adelaide).

Our clients are satisfied with the quality of the windmill inspection, as well as the swift and clear communication maintained with them. This shows the effectiveness of the ultrasound testing method (UT) with which the Division has completed this project.

Moreover, this project has been developed in collaboration with an electronics company, which has been responsible for all the necessary electrical work; for example, the cable connection during inspections.
