Applus+ achieves CDP 'A' score for climate change transparency in 2023

07/02/2024

In recognition of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Applus+ has been included in CDP’s top-tier 'A List' of 2023. Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a global environmental non-profit, only selected around 300 companies for an ‘A’ rating out of over 21,000 evaluated companies.

This prestigious rating is testament to Applus+ leadership in corporate transparency and climate performance and reflects the dedication to thorough disclosure. CDP's methodology, using a detailed and independent approach, assesses companies on criteria such as comprehensive reporting, environmental risk awareness and management and the demonstration of best environmental practices, like setting ambitious and realistic targets.

Among the initiatives that have earned Applus+ this recognition is the increasing use of renewable energy. By 2023, 66% of the Group's operations used electricity from renewable sources. This translates into savings of more than 15,645 tonnes of CO2 equivalent and an 81% reduction in GHG emissions. In addition, the Group is rolling out the installation of fast charging stations for vehicles in several locations in Spain.
Boasting the world's largest database of company emissions, CDP is an essential resource for calculating Scope 3 carbon footprint. CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a net-zero, sustainable and resilient economy. It is a reference for investors and financial entities in climate risk management by businesses as well as local administrations.

In 2023, CDP's platform witnessed an unprecedented response, with over 21,000 companies submitting data on environmental impact, risks and opportunities, up 24% since last year. Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP, has commended the companies on the 'A List,' acknowledging their commitment to environmental transparency and encouraging continued progress in this subject.

"Earning a place on the ‘A List’ is about more than the score. It's an indication of high-quality, complete data that equips companies with a holistic view of their environmental impact, serves as a baseline for transition plans, and crucially, enables them to follow through on their ambitions," Madera adds.
At Applus+, we acknowledge that environmental protection is an ongoing journey and we look forward to turning this achievement into further effective actions and contribute to a more sustainable future.
