Applus+ participates in the development of new systems to move towards electric and sustainable mobility

At Applus+, we contribute to the development of electric vehicles and their social acceptance in order to promote the transition towards more sustainable mobility. All this is carried out through joint research with key players in the sector and the launching of new laboratories.

We participate in several European R&D projects funded by the Horizon 2020 programme, in which we collaborate with other entities and use our expertise to contribute to the development of new systems .

For example, we participate in the MARBEL project, which aims to produce more sustainable and efficient electric batteries by developing new compact, lightweight and high-performance modular battery packs. The MARBEL project consortium, consisting of 16 partners from Spain, Italy, France, Denmark, Turkey, Germany, Norway and Greece, aims to accelerate the deployment of electric vehicles in the mass market.

MARBEL is expected to generate scientific and technological impacts, drive the emergence and consolidation of new players (especially SMEs) and business models, strengthen the European position in the global battery market, and contribute to EU environmental and social objectives.

Another key aspect in the implementation of the electric vehicle is social acceptance. Through the European eCharge4Drivers project, we work to deliver an enhanced charging experience, providing more sophisticated services, including smart charging. The project will deliver an enhanced user experience at electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, helping to increase the attractiveness and comfort of EVs. In collaboration with 32 partners from 11 European countries, eCharge4Drivers will bring together key stakeholders to help deliver an optimal electric vehicle charging experience in cities and during long journeys and accelerate the transition to electric mobility across Europe.

In addition, we continue to improve our electric vehicle components testing worldwide in order to accompany our customers in the development of electric vehicles, helping to ensure the functionality, quality and safety of the devices they develop.

We have expanded our facilities in the UK with a new laboratory for electric vehicle battery testing, which incorporates a large test bench specialising in climate, vibration and crash tests on the entire battery, with specific safety measures. Applus+ facilities in the UK are the only ones in the country where battery packs as large as this can be tested, and only very few locations across Europe have similar equipment.
