Applus+ performs the inspection of offshore tanks for a major hydrocarbon operator in Brazil

Applus+ has carried out the inspection of 40 offshore tanks located on a platform of a major hydrocarbon company in Brazil.

Storage tank inspections cover both in- and out-of-service inspections of vertical and horizontal bulk storage tanks, both above and below ground. In this project, the parts comprising the hull, structures and piping of all internal and external connections of the tanks comprising the fleet were inspected, as well as the mounting brackets.

Applus+ has developed its own method to calculate and analyse all engineering and design parameters, including wind loads, deck embrittlement and expected tank pressure. The method used allows detailed design calculations for tank modification works, including piping replacement and installation and the assembly of wind stiffeners.

A highly trained team was deployed consisting of a project inspection supervisor, a vertical works supervisor and two UTMs (Ultrasonic Thickness Technician), one of whom is qualified in liquid penetrant and magnetic particle testing.

These experts are specialists in load handling, qualified welding, structural assembly, mechanics, painting and other necessary skills.

The readings were performed with certified, calibrated and approved machinery. The deterioration of the tanks in operation was visually examined in order to proceed with repair and maintenance.

This inspection resulted in a comprehensive report on the general condition of the base, walls, roof and structure of the client's tanks.
