Applus+ Laboratories successfully conducts its first testing projects for transit contactless acceptance devices in compliance with the new Visa spec VCTKS v1.0.2

The new VCTKS specification replaces the previous VOQOS specification for contactless payment in transportation ecosystems, simplifying the certification process.
The Applus+ IT laboratory in Shanghai was the first in the world to complete a VCTKS testing project. Our IT lab in Barcelona has recently finished its first VCTKS project with successful results.

In December 2019, Visa officially announced the release of the new test plan for the VCTKS v1.0.2, a new specification for transit contactless payments. The VCTKS specification defines the technical differences between the VCPS contactless kernel used in retail acceptance environments and the contactless kernel used in transit acceptance environments, to guide vendors towards implementing kernels that can be used in transit acceptance devices.
VCTKS has replaced the former VOQOS specification for transit acceptance devices and simplified the certification process for vendors. Prior to the release of VCTKS, transit acceptance devices had to support both the Visa payment spec for retail (VCPS) and the Visa prior transit spec (VOQOS). Not needing a VCPS submission will help developers choose the proper certification type according to their needs, and reduce the time to market of their products.
Our IT Laboratories in both Barcelona and Shanghai are accredited and ready to test the new VCTKS specification, and have successfully completed their first testing projects:
Advanced Card Systems Ltd. ‘ACR330’: the first transit acceptance device certified under VCTKS in the world was tested in our IT lab in Shanghai.
The Applus+ IT laboratory in Shanghai, China, managed all the test campaigns, and conducted both the initial QA test campaign (debugging) and the official type approval evaluation. ACR330 was the first transit terminal to obtain VCTKS certification. ACS Senior Project Manager, Isaac CHAN, commented: "VCTKS is a must for the VISA Mass Transit Transaction (MTT) model used in transit terminals. Applus+ is the pioneer in providing VISA VCTKS testing services. We appreciate Applus+ competitive pricing and efficient response to our testing requirements, and Applus+ engineers’ expertise from the technical side."
A new L2 kernel developed by PayCore recently completed the VCTKS and VCPS certification in our IT lab in Barcelona.
PayCore developed a new L2 kernel for retail and transit terminal vendors. PayCore relied on our IT laboratory in Barcelona to conduct both VCTKS (transit) and VCPS (retail) certification test campaigns on the first acceptance terminal that uses its new VCTKS-compliant kernel.
“After successfully passing both testing campaigns in the Applus+ IT laboratories, our PayCore VCTKS L2 Kernel is now ready to be implemented and certified in new acceptance devices”, stated Ahmed Akgun, PayCore’s Managing Director.
Smoothing the transition to new specifications
As an expert laboratory, Applus+ can advise developers on the impact of specification and test plan changes, and support them with QA evaluation (debugging) sessions to avoid issues during certification. Visa has recognized our laboratories in China and Spain, as well as commercial offices in the USA and South Korea, for the excellence of their service.
