Applus+ in Australia conducts a drone photogrammetry survey in an Oil & Gas Terminal

13/10/2023

Applus+ has been commissioned to conduct a Photogrammetry Survey using a drone for a difficult to inspect a pipeline associated with a Queensland based Oil & Gas Terminal.

The project is challenging as the pipeline is located over a River and is adjacent to an airport. Given the proximity to the airport, Applus+ will complete the survey at a maximum height of 35m as part of our risk assessment and CASA approvals. Two pilots will capture the pipeline utilising a DJI Matrice 300 drone which will be launched from a support vessel. The pilots will then follow the pipeline using the vessel.

Applus+ will provide the client with a detailed 3D model of the pipeline for an ongoing Condition Monitoring programme. The 3D model will used to match an earlier survey conducted in 2021 on the same pipeline. The 2021 model incorporates In-line Inspection pigging data for rapid assessment of external features flagged by the pigging exercise. The project has incorporated two months of planning and approvals so we can deliver a comprehensive and precise 3D model of the pipeline.
