Applus+ in Qatar provides NDT and inspection for QAPCO shutdown

The project was awarded following a technical evaluation of Applus+' inspection and advanced NDT capabilities. The scope covered the inspection of equipment including pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, and storage tanks during the LLDPE Turnaround 2025. These activities were carried out to assess equipment condition, identify degradation mechanisms, and provide the information required to support maintenance planning, repair decisions, and continued operation.

Applus+ Plant Inspectors performed detailed visual and integrity assessments of static equipment, piping systems, and associated assets, while Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) specialists reviewed inspection data, assessed degradation mechanisms, and supported inspection planning to ensure inspection activities were focused on the highest-risk equipment and operational priorities.

The inspection programme was supported by a range of advanced NDT techniques, including Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Eddy Current Testing (ECT), and Internal Rotary Inspection System (IRIS) testing. These methods were used to assess equipment condition, identify potential defects, and support inspection findings across the plant's critical assets.

Throughout the shutdown, Applus+ inspection personnel conducted field assessments and issued inspection reports documenting findings and recommendations. All identified rectification work was subsequently verified upon completion, supporting plant restart decisions and continued operation.

The project was completed with zero safety incidents, reinforcing Applus+' commitment to the highest standards of health, safety, and operational excellence. In recognition of the team's professional execution and effective inspection support during the LLDPE Turnaround 2025, QAPCO formally acknowledged Applus+' contribution to the successful shutdown programme.

By providing experienced inspection personnel, Risk-Based Inspection expertise, and advanced NDT support, Applus+ contributed to the completion of critical turnaround inspection activities at the QATOFIN plant. The project adds to the company's experience in supporting shutdown, turnaround, and asset integrity programmes across Qatar's industrial sector.
