Applus+ Executes National Agreement with Regulatory Agency for the Provision of Weld Testing

05/05/2021

Applus+ in Canada has entered into an agreement with a national agency for the provision of welder qualification testing.

Welder qualification testing involves the assessment of a welding operator’s ability to produce a sound weld in accordance with a given specification. During the test, a welding operator produces a test coupon. Applus+ then performs appropriate radiographic or mechanical tests of the weld coupon, determined by the code requirements. The assessment performed by Applus+ seeks to ensure that the welding operator can produce a weld that conforms with the requirements of the relevant welding standard.

Welder qualification testing is one of the integrated professional services  offered by Applus+ in support of welding operations.  Related services include:

    • Development of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welding Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)
    • Mechanical laboratory testing of welding coupons in our ISO 17025 certified labs
    • Quality control activities including inspection and non-destructive testing
    • Quality assurance activities including quality audits and vendor surveillance

Applus+ has experience with a variety of welding codes, including CSA, AWS, ASME & ISO, and is capable of developing welding procedures for marine classification societies (Lloyds, DNV, ABS) for a wide range of materials.
