25/03/2020

The World Road Congress (WRC), organised by the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the World Road Association (PIARC), was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 6th-10th October 2019. The event brought together participants from all over the world to share their knowledge and experience of the construction industry.

The Applus+ Energy & Industry Division in Spain and the Middle East presented the very latest road technologies, with both a stand and presentation at the WRC. The Applus+ team comprised of Isabel Rodríguez Ramos (Head of the Construction Line in Spain), Luis Alberto Jaén Pérez (Head of Construction Services in the Energy & Industry Division) and Pedro Aliseda Pérez de Madrid (Technical Director for Road Surface Management). They were supported by members of the Middle East team, including Matt Stead (Head of Business Development for the Middle East & Africa), Abdul Rahman (Head of Business Development for the UAE) and Sunil Kumar (Business Development Manager for the UAE).

Pedro Aliseda presented a paper, “Towards Digital Roads,” illustrating the company’s 20-year journey developing auscultation services, culminating in its participation in a major international innovation project “PAV-DT”, a disruptive technology that enables the real-time, low-cost monitoring of road conditions. This project cements the Applus+ Group’s position at the forefront of innovation, as we move inexorably towards digitisation, including in roads.

The WRC is held in one of the most economically influential locations in the world and covers a wide range of business areas. Participating enabled Applus+ to raise awareness of its customised solutions and cutting-edge developments. This will enable the company to strengthen its market position while seeking the new business opportunities that will support continued international expansion.
