Applus+ in Qatar has completed a detailed underwater structural integrity assessment of the Cooling Tower Basin Connector at a Power Plant. The project was executed while the plant remained in full operation, with no interruption to ongoing processes—demonstrating the team's capability to deliver critical inspections under live conditions.
The assessment, carried out by the Construction Department, utilized advanced Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) technology and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) testing to evaluate the condition of reinforced concrete structures, including vertical walls, basin floors, and pump foundations.
The inspection offered a safer, faster, and more cost-effective solution by replacing conventional diver-based methods with ROV systems. The deployed system enabled high-resolution 2D and 3D scanning, live video feeds, and accurate condition grading—supporting the client's long-term maintenance and repair planning.
Key achievements of the project include:
All activities were conducted by certified ROV pilots and experienced engineers, with comprehensive documentation and data provided to support future asset reviews and lifecycle extension strategies.
This successful project reinforces Applus+'s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, non-intrusive inspection solutions that enhance asset safety, reliability, and performance across the energy and infrastructure sectors.
