INTRODUCTION

Plant lifecycle management helps companies predict and manage a plant through all of its life-cycle phases and brings many challenges. Designers of new plant facilities are expected to predict which failure modes can be expected following construction and how these can be managed. The impact of activities, such as maintenance inspection, on life expectancy and lifecycle cost is another issue, while the need to extend the life-cycle of older plants requires the proactive management of structural problems in ageing constructions. As a result, Applus+ has developed a series of consulting and on-site services in plant lifecycle management.

THE Applus+ SOLUTION

Applus+, in cooperation with some of its key clients, has developed several services to assist in plant and facility lifecycle management across all life-cycles, from FEED study to decommissioning.

In the front-end engineering design (FEED) stage, activities may involve preparation of written schedules for the plant, as well as setting inspection intervals. Applus+ can also provide input into design and construction methods, giving consideration to NDT inspection activities and preventive maintenance inspections. During construction and commissioning, as part of our plant lifecycle management service, Applus+ can prepare and update programme information based on plant design and the results of tests performed.

In-operation, the plant lifecycle management services from Applus+ include:

  • Updating written practices to meet current regulations
  • Updating written practices to make use of up-to-the-minute technologies
  • Assessing plant condition and estimated remaining operational life
  • Assessing site condition and metallurgy
  • Evaluating studies of plant-facility life extension
  • Monitoring on-line condition
  • Reviewing operating data and its impact on plant-life expectancy
