Material property evaluation

The main goal of material-property assessment is to confirm that the material properties of parts used in drilling operations have not degraded over time and that the materials comply with the acceptance ranges set by the relevant production standards.

We issue a certificate describing the material’s qualities, chemical analysis and strength class in line with relevant standards. Our highly qualified personnel are experienced in steel production, refineries, hydropower, aeronautics, oil and gas, pipelines, well equipment and construction.

Applus+ metallographic teams perform a variety of non-destructive materials investigations. Testing can even be performed on site. Our services include:

  • Chemical analysis / positive material identification (PMI) using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES)
  • Microstructure investigation and evaluation
  • Hardness testing
  • Rockwell method
  • Leeb method (Equotip)
  • Vickers method (Ernst Esatest)
  • Dynamic impact
  • Ferrite measurement
  • Thickness measurement of overlay cladding
  • Copper-sulphate testing
  • Ferroxyl testing
  • Acid pickling
