Energy savings ultimately result from an in-depth analysis of all energy-consuming and transforming systems and processes, whether these are part of an industrial process or in a building.
Such an analysis begins by looking at energy-generation systems (boiler rooms, cooling systems, cogenerators, biomass facilities, generation systems powered by renewable energy, etc.), then turns its attention to distribution systems (pumping systems, compressed-air rings, hydraulic or electric drive systems, etc.) and finally looks at the end equipment (air-handling units, fan-coil units, cold stores, lighting systems, etc.).
Our energy-efficiency analyses of a client’s various technologies and processes focus on determining the profitability of any energy-saving measures (ESM) that may be proposed. This requires the potential savings of every possible ESM to be calculated against the current outlay plus the level of investment required to implement it.
Within the sphere of strategic energy consulting, Applus+ also leads on the monitoring and development of national energy-efficiency policies in different countries around the world. Examples of such projects include developing an energy-certification system to classify a country’s buildings according to their relative energy efficiency and using georeferencing to monitor energy intensity in a particular zone in order to track energy consumption.
