Applus+ in Indonesia performs rope access inspection at petrochemical facility

11/06/2025

Applus+ in Indonesia is proud to support the continued reliability and safety of a major petrochemical facility—part of one of the largest integrated petrochemical complexes in Southeast Asia.

For this project, our team of certified inspectors provides a wide range of inspection services utilizing IRATA-certified rope access techniques, ensuring efficient access to elevated and hard-to-reach structures without the need for scaffolding. This not only reduces downtime but also optimizes safety and cost-effectiveness during the inspection phase.

To support the facility’s focus on asset integrity, the scope includes Visual InspectionUltrasonic Testing (UT), and Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM)—targeting common damage mechanisms and early indicators of degradation in key plant systems.

Visual inspection is being used to identify surface-level issues such as corrosion, deformation, cracking, and mechanical wear—particularly around spring hangers and pipe supports where movement, misalignment, or corrosion can introduce stress into the system. Early detection here is crucial to prevent cascading failures across piping networks.

UT is being carried out on welds and pressure-retaining components to screen for internal flaws not visible from the surface, such as cracking, lack of fusion, or lamination. These inspections are especially important in high-stress areas and older equipment where fatigue or service-induced defects may exist.

UTM is focused on measuring remaining wall thickness in piping and equipment affected by internal corrosion or erosion. This allows the client to assess the remaining life of components and prioritize areas for repair or replacement before they reach critical limits.

All inspections are performed in line with industry standards (ASME, API, ASTM) and by experienced personnel certified for both inspection and rope access. By combining advanced inspection techniques with flexible access methods, Applus+ is helping reduce downtime risk and maintain a high level of operational safety across the facility.
