06/05/2021

Our team at Applus+ in Indonesia performed Ex Equipment Inspection for one of oil operator at East Kalimantan Offshore. The project was started in February 2021 and completed in March 2021 with zero injury and incident. We deployed 2 (two) Ex Certified personnel for the project.

Ex Inspection performed by Applus+ Inspector as specified in IEC 60079-17 – Inspection and Maintenance of Electrical Installation in Hazardous Area. The inspection and maintenance standard IEC 60079-17 (which has recently been significantly updated and revised) provides the details for the inspection and maintenance of electrical Ex equipment.

Ex Inspection objective is to ensure the plant safety and can also lead to lower running costs. Most of the Ex Equipment was on offshore platform and this inspection should be done in every 3 (three) years. The recently updated inspection and maintenance standard IEC 60079-17 gives additional details about how these inspections should be carried out and the responsibilities of inspectors. Installations in hazardous areas possess features specially designed to make them suitable for operations in such atmospheres. It is essential that in those areas, throughout the life of such installations, the integrity of those special features is maintained. As the output of the inspection, we generated almost 1,000 reports to Client within less than 1 week.

The challenge of personnel movement and mobilization has been successfully overcome by the assist of Client’s Covid-19 Protocol whereas they provide the Quarantine logistic and relevant measurement before the Applus+ Inspector goes offshore.

Applus+ in Indonesia has expanded its portfolio of electrical inspection service to increase its market presence in the country and strengthen the position as a global leader.
