Applus+ Carries Out Long-Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT) on Hydrogen Pipelines at an Oil Refinery Undergoing Conversion to Renewable Fuels

01/08/2023

Applus+ in Australia is currently conducting a comprehensive inspection of hydrogen pipelines at an oil refinery undergoing a conversion to renewable fuels. The inspection includes ultrasonic testing (UT) and rope access, covering hundreds of meters of piping and involving over 70 LRUT test points.

The purpose of the inspection is to assess the condition of the pipelines and determine their suitability for the renewable fuels project, as well as identify any repair requirements. Our team collaborates closely with the client's engineering department to ensure efficient information exchange.

We perform guided wave or long-range ultrasonic testing (LRUT) to rapidly screen and assess extensive pipeline sections using specialized equipment, including the Wavemaker Long Range Ultrasonics Kit. We then examine specific areas of interest or suspected anomalies using handheld ultrasonic testing devices, such as thickness gauges and flaw detectors. The results of the LRUT survey provide valuable insights, enabling us to identify areas needing further inspection or maintenance.

Applus+ offers guided wave testing in diverse environments and product temperatures for various sectors. Our services are available on an ad-hoc basis or as part of an asset integrity inspection programme, benefitting clients looking to analyse their systems efficiently and focusing on identifying and resolving problems.
