Buried Pipeline Corrosion, Control and Defects

Corrosion is one of the leading threats that the pipeline industry needs to manage. Yet most people entering the industry have little technical knowledge regarding pipeline corrosion, how to protect against it, and what type of defects it creates. Kiefner Technical Training specifically designed this course for those individuals to learn the technical aspects of pipeline corrosion without taking courses tailored to become a corrosion professional.

    Course Cost: $595

    Duration: 6 hours (2 sessions)

    Course Topics Include:
    • Basics of electrochemistry that apply to pipeline corrosion
    • Types of corrosion on pipelines
    • Cathodic protection systems and their benefits
    • Corrosive environments for pipelines
    • Electrical measurements used in monitoring corrosion control
    • Explanations of corrosion control terms such as IR Drop, ON, and
Instant OFF pipe to soil measurements
    • The role of coatings in preventing and causing corrosion
    • Above ground electrical surveys and their uses
    • Regulatory requirements of corrosion control
    • How to identify the types of corrosion defects

For over 25 years, Applus+ Engineering staff have presented fundamental and accepted strategies for maintaining safe pipelines. We are pleased to announce the development of a structured series of online courses to provide training on fundamental pipeline integrity concepts and methods. The material in these courses provide the fundamental concepts of the effects of defects and imperfections on pipelines as well as methods for preventing, assessing, and mitigating them. The intended audience are pipeline company engineers e new or have only a few years of experience in integrity management. An introduction to pipeline defects, cathodic protection, defect assessment, in-line inspection, pipeline repair and hydrostatic testing are some of the topics presented in this workshop. More in-depth programs on these topics will available in future workshops. Sessions can be taken individually; however, registering for all sessions provides a price reduction and the benefit of having comprehensive pipeline integrity training.
