An international power energy company have required NDT support from Applus+ for a Gas Turbine outage. During the outage Applus+ have been responsible for the inspection of critical turbine parts to assess their operational suitability after coming out of service.

During the outage Applus+ technician’s have been recognised for their proactive commitment to Health and Safety and received safety awards for two separate observations involving harness awareness for working at height and confined spaces.

In both situations, Applus+ technicians have shown a proactive commitment to ensuring the safety of other site members.  Both incidents are examples of technicians having the confidence to challenge all unsafe acts on site and not just walk by.  When technicians work at height outside of barriers or near open edges the risk of falling at height is significantly increased.  Similarly, when working in confined spaces the risk involved retrieving injured technicians can be just as great if the correct PPE is not worn to assist with the retrieval.

Both these incidents had the potential to cause life changing or fatal injuries had something had gone wrong and the proactive approach from Applus+ has ensured this risk has been reduced.
