Applus+ Provides Consultancy Services for Asset Management Software Implementation

12/05/2023

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services (MoTLS) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has designated the Deputyship of Roads Operation and Maintenance (RO&M) through the General Department of Asset Management (GDAM) with the responsibility of maintaining and operating a vast network of over 72,500 km of roads, 550 bridges, and other transportation infrastructure assets. The MoTLS has developed the National Transport Strategy 2020 to support the development of the transport sector, promote economic growth and competitiveness, provide easy access to transportation services, and improve transport safety.

To achieve the objectives of the National Transport Strategy, the Roads Operation and Maintenance Agency has launched several initiatives, including the implementation of Asset Management Software. Applus+ in Saudi Arabia provides Consultancy Services – Road Management to implement an Infrastructure Asset Management System for the MoTLS road network as part of this initiative. Our scope of work includes data collection, system implementation, review and adaptation of deterioration models and decision trees, and maintenance strategies.

For this project, we implemented and gave our consultancy services of the software, evaluating the pavement condition and predicting their behavior based on historical information. The client can obtain the necessary maintenance programs to achieve the required service levels and enhance maintenance activities to preserve those service levels as long as possible after executing the corresponding maintenance through these predictions.

As the project requires collecting and evaluating data to obtain maintenance plans and expected life spans for pavement structures, completing it within a constrained time-lapse is a significant challenge due to the extensive network and additional IT requirements. To overcome this challenge, careful planning, organization, and coordination with internal stakeholders are necessary to ensure timely provision of essential information.

This project has demonstrated trust in our quality consultancy services, and we have gained valuable experience from this endeavour, which will benefit us in future projects. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the MoTLS and contributing to developing the transport sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
