Applus+ Indonesia successfully completed the inspection of a live flare stack using the latest UAV equipment.
Inspection of elevated flare stacks would require a plant shutdown and climbing the stack ; however Applus+ were able to complete the inspection while the stack was in service, allowing the operator to significantly reduce costs by maximizing uptime of the process equipment. Applus+ provides aerial inspection and surveying using the latest Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and patented technology. Payloads include high definition video equipment, high-resolution still cameras andthermal imaging cameras.
An Applus+ two-man team, a pilot and an inspector recently completed two live flare stack inspection in Balikpapan, Indonesia. A High resolution photograph was captured to determine the condition of the following equipment to detect the presence of cracks, distortion, deviation from as-built drawings, missing or damaged components and the degree of corrosion and coating conditions of pipework and equipment.
