Applus+ awarded comparative testing contract for railway-platform construction works on “Basque Y” line

10/01/2019

An Applus+ (70%)/Euskontrol, S.A (30%) joint venture has been contracted by ADIF Alta Velocidad, the state-owned company responsible for Spain’s high-speed rail infrastructure , to carry out comparative testing on railway platform works on the high-speed Vitoria–Bilbao–San Sebastián line.

This contract forms part of the construction of the much-discussed “Basque Y”, the new train line linking the Basque Country’s three main urban centres (Vitoria, Bilbao and San Sebastián). The line will vastly reduce travel times between these three cities, as well as between the Basque Country and central Spain, not to mention the rest of Europe.

The joint venture will undertake comparative testing involving all the laboratories participating in the construction of the new subsections of this line, whether these labs are managed by construction, technical support or manufacturing companies. It will also contribute to any other works arising on this section when the contract manager determines that such works relate to the roll-out of the high-speed line. The project is due to last 42 months.

This project will see materials tests carried out on civil engineering works , concrete, soil, steel and asphalt mixes. ADIF has demonstrated its faith in us by contracting us to verify the results generated by all the laboratories involved in the high-speed sections between Bilbao and Vitoria.
