Applus+ attended the 34th PERUMIN Mining Convention, organised by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), which took place from 16th to 20th September in the Peruvian city of Arequipa. This event brought together more than 60,000 people – business leaders, investors, public officials, civil servants, professionals, students and the general public – from more than 40 countries.
This mining convention, the second largest in the world, has been held in Peru for over 65 years. This year, the organisers’ aim was to sow into the hearts and minds of Peruvians, particularly young Peruvians, the idea that the mining industry is about more than just extracting and exporting minerals; that it is, instead, a complex and responsible activity with the highest of standards that provides, among other things, a great opportunity to develop science and cutting-edge technological innovations by drawing on our human and mineral resources. PERUMIN 34 was attended by Martín Vizcarra, President of Peru; Salvador del Solar, Prime Minister of Peru; Francisco Ísmodes, Peruvian Minister of Energy and Mines; Lucía Ruíz, Peruvian Minister of the Environment; Omar Candia, Mayor of Arequipa Province; Carlos Gálvez, President of PERUMIN 34; and Luis Rivera, President of IIMP – among other public figures.
In line with the event’s objectives, Applus+ was able to present its proprietary technological innovation services to the many professionals and companies visiting our stand. These services included RTD DTI Trekscan, the first free-floating in-line inspection tool designed to traverse back-to-back one-dimensional (1D) bends; the CIMSA mobile app that enables our inspectors and QA/QC monitors to work with digital field data and generate electronic reports for clients, thereby eliminating paper and improving operational records and control; as well as other traditional Applus+ engineering, monitoring, quality assurance and quality control services.
Representing Applus+ at the convention were Nardith Zelada, who looks after tenders and offered an in-depth commercial knowledge of our services at our stand, as well as electrical division managers Freddy Quijaite, Fernando Loayza and Joel Bernuy and Peru’s Country Manager Eduardo Rodriguez, all of whom held a series of meetings with existing and potential mining clients.
Existing clients that dropped by our stand included mining companies ANTAMINA, NEXA, SOUTHERN PERU and CHINALCO. Among the potential future clients we spoke to were SOCIEDAD MINERA CERRO VERDE, LAS BAMBAS, YANACOCHA, BUENAVENTURA, ANTAPACCAY, GOLD FIELDS, PODEROSA, BECHTEL, SACYR, STRACON and VALERO.
