First terminal compliant with new VCPS 2.2 specs tested successfully by Applus+

The new Visa specification for acceptance devices makes several changes that manufacturers must take into account
Applus+ Laboratories has tested the first acceptance device compliant with the new version 2.2 of Visa’s VCPS specification, an mPOS for contactless payment. All the test campaigns were managed from China by the Applus+ IT laboratory in Shanghai. Applus+ conducted both the initial quality assurance test campaign (debug) and the official type approval evaluation.

Main changes in the new VCPS 2.2 specification for acceptance devices and its test plan 2.2a

In October 2016, Visa officially announced the release of the new test plan for products compliant with Visa Contactless Payment Specifications Version 2.2a. Products compliant with the former version (2.1.3) can still be tested under the former test plan. The key change of this new specification version is the removal of MSD capacity, but there are several additional technical changes that affect terminal development.

There are also important changes from the testing process perspective. Now a single product supporting the three modes (online only, offline only and online/offline capable) can be submitted to a single certification process. Under the old version of the specification, each mode had to be certified separately. This change will help developers offering terminals with more than one mode, reducing their time to market.

Smoothing the transition to new specifications

As an expert testing laboratory, Applus+ can advise developers on the impact of specification and test plan changes and support them even before a QA evaluation (debugging) to avoid issues during certification. We have Visa recognized laboratories in China and Spain, as well as commercial offices in the USA and South Korea.
