Applus+ expands training capability in Bibra Lake

22/10/2019

In September, Applus+ finished the construction of a new Training Centre at their Bibra Lake facility to cater for an increased focus on in-house training and the provision of training packages to the third parties and the public. The Centre is suitable for up to 20 people and offers a classroom, office and open plan kitchen, dining and lounge.

Due to improvements with inventory management, the area for Training more than tripled, allowing the construction of a two storey purpose built facility to cater for students. The training area for rope access was also expanded, adding a large vessel and platform to replicate scenarios found on site.

The Training Centre will soon offer training packages suited to Building and Construction, Mining and Energy sectors to strengthen the knowledge base of our growing workforce in the region. Training packages will include IRATA Rope Access, Safe Working at Height, Confined Space Entry and First Aid Training.

A full time Training Manager oversees the training packages supporting the business and clients alike. To support the Training Centre, an online booking tool was implemented with the addition of online payments being accepted.

Prior to the building being implemented, there was a mixed use of the public utilising operational areas and staff facilities, now with the Training Centre completed, it segregates the public from operational areas.

In the first half of 2019, the Training Centre saw just under the same number of personnel trained as the total number in 2017 and 2018 combined.

Due to the increase in size of the area, as an example, IRATA training can now incorporate up to eight trainees with two instructors as well as carry out other in house training at the same time. Previously, training was limited to only four trainees.
