The oil and gas process industry handles toxic and flammable materials daily. To reduce hazards, there are regulations for the management of plants and facilities requiring it to demonstrate that it has identified existing hazards and undertaken necessary measures to prevent accidents.
Operators constantly find themselves having to strike a balance between meeting scheduled mandatory shut downs & inspections and minimizing business interruptions. Increasingly, innovative asset integrity strategies such as RBI are being implemented to meet these goals.
VELOSI’s Asset Operations Process is based on a risk-based strategy for maintenance and inspection planning. We use risk-based methods like Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), Reliability Centered Maintenance
(RCM) and Risk Based Inspection (RBI) to rank systems, equipment and develop strategies for maintenance and inspection.
We have developed a sophisticated software suite called VAIL-Plant
to assist in RBI Planning and Data Management. VELOSI aims to help manufactures minimize their plants downtime through building a cost effective inspection program without compromising on the safety of the plant and the environment in which it operates.
Risk Based Inspection (RBI) is a systematic approach to create an accurate and well-targeted inspection strategy based on risk.
Among the benefits of using this method of inspection are:
- Establishes a risk ranking among individual equipment items in order to optimize inspection efforts and reduce costs
- Extends inspection intervals beyond statutory requirements
- Can potentially reduce production loss during turnaround inspections
- Increases confidence in the equipment’s integrity
- Establishes paths for regulatory approval
