The beauty of repeat inspections and the power of drones

    Applus+ RVIS' team completes a 5th drone inspection of the SAME flare stack for one of our clients, an oil & gas super-major.
    Since 2012, we have been carrying out inspections of this flare tower using drones with cameras. Using drones to inspect flare stacks is a no brainer. Drones don’t require any downtime, they are safer and less costly than traditional methods. They are also very powerful in generating visual digital data that becomes more precious in repeat inspections. Therefore accumulated knowledge about the asset is passed through visual documentation that is essential for asset management.
     
    This year’s inspection took place last week. Now our client has highly accurate digital data and his maintenance engineers can make informed decisions. They will plan maintenance of critical parts of the inspected flare stack with minimum amount of outage. It is a great example of the powerful collaboration of inspectors and engineers with automation. It is the way to make maintenance more efficient while prolonging the life of assets.
